Gyeongsan Knowledge Industry District, newly designated as regulation free zone of electric car wireless charging

At the 8th regulation-free zone committee held on August 4, ‘Gyeongbuk regulation-free zone for next-generation wireless EV charging’ was deliberated which made new special zone designation finally confirmed.

A special zone of wireless charging will be demonstrated in the whole area of Gyeongsan Knowledge Industry District with a total of KRW 18.5 billion of project expenses from September 2022 to August 2026, with the participation of 8 innovative companies in the wireless EV charging field.

The key point of the special zone is the ‘great transformation of the paradigm of electric vehicle charging’ through technological innovation of the era of the 4th industrial revolution.

In addition, wireless charging is regarded as a core technology in the era of autonomous driving that will come soon.

The regulation-free zone for next-generation wireless EV charging consists of three detailed businesses.

First, it will have a preemptive demonstration of 22kw level wireless charging system by demonstrating high-power wireless EV charging and will participate in the establishment of an international standard of high-speed wireless charging (more than 50kw) in the future.

Next, it will demonstrate complex charging by connecting a wireless charger to an existing cable charging facility for electric vehicles.

For the last, through the demonstration of wireless subminiature electric vehicle charging, the localization and commercialization of core technologies will be conducted, which will be preferentially applied to special purpose vehicles such as logistics/parcel services to advance to overseas markets such as Europe.

As the automobile parts industry which has been a representative industry of Gyeongbuk and led the local economy is going through a big change, a transition to the future car industry, Gyeongsan Knowledge Industry District of Daegu-Gyeongbuk Free Economic Zone was able to preoccupy the wireless EV charging field.
