▸ First foreign direct investment (FDI) in the gaming sector at Suseong Alpha City
▸ Expected to energize Daegu’s gaming ecosystem through IP-driven collaboration

Daegu Metropolitan City and the Daegu-Gyeongbuk Free Economic Zone Authority (DGFEZ), led by Commissioner Kim Byeong-sam, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on June 19 with Japanese game publisher G Holdings at the Dongin Government Complex. The agreement marks the first foreign direct investment (FDI) in the gaming sector within Suseong Alpha City, Daegu’s premier ICT-SW cluster.
G Holdings, led by CEO Jun-gu Lee, specializes in developing and publishing games based on popular Japanese animation and manga IPs. The company has successfully launched titles and collaborations featuring global hits such as Haikyu!! and Attack on Titan, and formed a strategic partnership with Korean gaming giant Com2uS in September 2023.
G Holdings cited Daegu’s strong industrial base and talent pipeline as key reasons for selecting the city as its Korean hub. With a history of early game industry development since the late 1990s, Daegu is now home to over 400 gaming companies and more than 2,000 industry professionals. The presence of dedicated game-related programs at local universities and the support of institutions like the Daegu Global Game Center provide a well-established foundation for workforce training and corporate collaboration.
G Holdings plans to use Daegu as a strategic base for expanding cooperation with both large and small Korean game companies, targeting global markets beyond Asia. The company also aims to strengthen ties with local academic departments to actively recruit and nurture regional talent.
Suseong Alpha City is an ICT and software-specialized cluster focused on advanced industries such as software, digital healthcare, and gaming/content, and currently houses around 300 IT-related companies.
The entry of a renowned Japanese IP-based game publisher into the region is expected to invigorate Daegu’s overall digital content ecosystem and enhance its global competitiveness.
Daegu’s Vice Mayor for Economic Affairs, Hong Sung-joo, stated,
“This MOU represents a major milestone in establishing Suseong Alpha City as a global hub for the gaming industry.”
DGFEZ Commissioner Kim Byeong-sam added,
“We will provide full administrative support to help G Holdings take root and grow in Daegu.”
