President Park Geun-hye visited Daegu Creative Economy Innovation Center to bolster creative economy in Daegu 

 

President Park Geun-hye visited Daegu On September 15th. The President attended the opening ceremony of the Daegu Creative Economy Innovation Center at the Daegu Trade Center Building. Among the attendees were Lee Jae-yong, Vice Chairman of Samsung Electronics and Kwon Young-jin, Mayor of Daegu.   In commenting on the importance of the Daegu Creative Economy Innovation Center  President Park said “Global companies leading innovation in the world such as Apple or Google first started their business in a small garage. Daegu Creative Economy Innovation Center will be a garage full of dream where regional companies and talented manpower can communicate and collaborate to turn innovative ideas into creative technologies, products, and business.”

 

She also highlighted Daegu’s potential. “There are already a number of signs showing economic revival in Daegu – the increase in high-end technology companies in precision machinery and electronic devices sectors and well established traditional industry in Daegu can be a good platform to leap up,” she said.

 

Creative economy is one of the core components of President Park’s economic policy and developing Creative Economy Innovation Centers in 17 cities and provinces is one of the major steps taken by her government to strengthen the Korean creative economy. One of the program’s major features is a one to one matching system connecting Korean Conglomerates and innovation centers. Samsung, which began its business in Daegu has undertaken to connect with and support small scale innovative start ups from Daegu and Gyeongbuk.
