Robert Bosch Korea has announced its plans to establish KB Wiper System, a 50-50 joint venture with Kyung Chang Industrial (KCW), an automotive parts manufacturer based in Daegu, to set up a wiper system factory.
Bosch will move its wiper system business in Korea while KCW will move its global wiper arm and blade business to the joint venture company. The joint venture company will begin production by the end of 2016 to supply automobile manufacturers and auto parts manufacturers in Korea.
The company will be located at the Daegu industrial complex on a 66,115㎡ site with an investment of approximately KRW 200 billion. It aims to reach KRW 300 billion in sales by 2020. The factory is expected to create about 700 jobs and bring positive spill-over effects in the region.
Bosch, the number one auto parts manufacturer in the world, expanded its business in Korea in 1985, with an extensive product lineup including automotive parts, aftermarket products, industrial automation and mobile devices, gearing tools and accessories, and security systems. KCW develops and produces wiper components for global automobile businesses.
The investment is the result of Daegu's years of efforts of attracting global company Bosch by providing infrastructure such as the Proving Ground for Intelligent Vehicle & Transportation as well as various national R&D centers including the Daegu-Gyeongbuk Institute of Science and Technology. Daegu's one-stop service and business-friendly labor culture and reasonable land lease/ownership process also contributed to the investment decision.
