“DGFEZ as an outpost of innovative growth in 2020”
▸ Gyeongsan Phase 2, Accelerated Development of Pohang Fusion Tech District and Yeongcheon High-Tech Park
▸ Reinforcement of investment attraction and post management of resident companies


◯ Daegu Gyeongbuk Free Economic Zone Authority (hereinafter “DGFEZ”, In-Seon Lee, Commissioner) plans to create an innovation ecosystem to foster future new industries such as robot, ICT, and advanced new material industries (bio, living consumer goods titanium and advanced medical).

◯ Over the past few years, the DGFEZ has endeavored to development the free economic zone and attract investments of domestic and international companies.
▶ With the completion of the development of the Suseong Medical District last December, four districts, or a half of eight districts in total, have been completed including the International Fashion District, Sinseo Medivalley, and Yeongcheon High-tech Park.
 
▶ As of last February, the DGFEZ received investments of 611 million dollars in 27 cases and 5,310.7 billion KRW from 508 domestic companies including Taegang Steel-Car Tech (MOU signed) in the Yeongcheon High-tech Park, and KC Town-Honam Heumwonryon Limited (MOU signed) in the Suseong Medical District last December since opening in 2008. Thus, the DGFEZ created 17,000 new jobs in Daegu-Gyeongbuk to create jobs and drove the economic growth of the Daegu and Gyeongbuk.
◯ Consequently, the DGFEZ received S grade, the highest grade in the FEZ performance evaluation by the Ministry of Commerce, Industry, and Energy last July.
 
◯ According to the 2020 Economic Policy Directions of the Government, the FEZ　innovation strategies are:
　　　⓵　“Creation of industrial ecosystem in association with foreign investments”
⓶ “Integration of domestic and overseas educational, research, and medical institutions and reinforcement of industry-academy cooperation” and
⓷ “Regulatory Innovation and strengthening regional cooperation functions”.

◯ Therefore, the DGFEZ plans to create innovation ecosystems for the robot industry in Daegu Technopolis, ICT industry in the Suseong Medical District, bio material industry in the Pohang Fusion Tech District, and titanium for living consumer products and advanced medical industry in the Gyeongsan Knowledge Industry District.
 
◯ For the development area, the DGFEZ plans to complete the phase 4 development of the Technopolis District this year. For the ohang Fusion Tech District, which was selected as a background area for the small giant research and development laster, project distribution will be carried out in earnest. For the Gyeongsan Knowledge Industry District, phase 2 development is being prepared. For the Yeongheon High-Tech Park, the launching ceremony was held in last December and the development will be accelerated.
 
◯ The foreign investment goal for 2020 was set to 25 million dollars. The post management of resident companies will be reinforced by operating a company difficulty counseling group consisting of 35 experts in 10 fields while supporting their overseas market development.
 
◯ In-Seon Lee, Commissioner of the DGFEZ said, “We will do our best to help the innovative growth of resident companies while doing our existing roles of development and attraction of investments.”
