On June 25, the Daegu-Gyeongbuk Free Economic Zone Authority(DGFEZ) held the “2026 Bio-Company Scale-Up Seminar” at Pohang Technopark under the theme “The Current State of Bio-Drug Development and Corporate Growth,” highlighting the functions and roles of specialized contract research organizations(CROs) throughout the entire drug development life cycle.
 
The event was hosted by DGFEZ and co-organized by Pohang Technopark and the Pohang Bio Industry Incorporated Association. Approximately 60 participants attended, including representatives from local biotech and medical companies, as well as universities, research institutes, hospitals, investment firms, and organizations specializing in new drug development.
 
Recently, the biotech industry has been evolving into a sector where collaboration among specialized institutions—spanning research and development, preclinical trials, clinical trials, production, and sales—is essential, driven by the proliferation of new modalities such as cell and gene therapies(CGT) and digital healthcare.
 
Accordingly, this seminar was organized to enhance understanding of the industrial structure across the entire new drug development life cycle and to strengthen the commercialization capabilities of local biotech companies by sharing the functions and roles of specialized institutions.
 
Acting Commissioner Sang-Ki Kang stated, “In the biotech industry, commercialization and market entry strategies are just as important as securing excellent technology,” adding, “I hope this seminar will serve as an opportunity for local companies to understand the entire new drug development life cycle and expand their collaboration with specialized institutions and investment firms.”
